Houdini Reid Versus The Dangerous Judges
Well, that was convenient - there's another terrible Terror Bill in the offing, three terror 'suspects' abscond (leading the BBC's Home Affairs Correspondent to muse on the subject of deportation, which is an interesting concept when applied to the British citizens now under control orders) and John Reid gets up on his hind legs to attack his usual suspects. Let's just recap on them:
1) Judicial independence
2) Human rights
3) Parliament
4) Other political parties
Yes, the ideal world for John Reid would have less of all four of those. Thank god the fucker won't be troubling us for much longer, but his poisonous legacy will infect the body politic for a lot longer. Let's produce our own list of suspects for the mess:

Yes, a lot of the 'restrictions' and 'limitations' decried by Mr. Reid are self-inflicted - the necessity for getting a High Court order before naming the absconded suspects (the first three haven't yet been named) torpedos any idea of a fair trial in future, while the alternative of not naming them loses you the ability to use the eyes of the public to help you search. The inability to present wiretap evidence in court is entirely the government's decision, which seriously hampers the police and prosecution. How's that for fighting with one hand behind your back, Houdini?

2) Human rights: No such thing they only apply to criminals to disguise the fact that they don't apply if the local regime sees fit.
3) Parliament: They don't even know what DEMOCRACY is, their own personal gravey train is their only interest in Parliament, and of course a big fat pension.
4) Other political parties: There aren't any, they refuse to take up things which would wipe out the opposition, and even prove FASCIST sympathies in their opponents.

Of course this could all be
Of course this could all be a set up to con the Sun reading public into giving away a few more of their human rights and freedoms.
Looking at this objectively we have
1) A bunch of 'suspects' against whom there may well be strong intelligence, some related to convicted terrorists (I pass no judgement on their actual guilt or innocence)
2) A set of 'control orders' put in place by a useless and incompetent home secretary / police farce that fall well below the level that British courts have established is viable under law, so no blaming the human rights act or the judges here.
3) These 'suspects' were not tagged or monitored, their movements were not restricted, indeed only one of the three even had to deal with the police, the other 2 just had to phone a private company (watch their list of non exec directors when the home secretary is fired).
A cynical person might conclude that these 'high risk' suspects were deliberately placed on a long leash in order that they could absond to create a story about how human rights and judges are exposing the British public to a threat. We will carefully ignore the argument that the threat is manufactured by the current government and not look at unhelpful evidence such as the EuroPol report into terrorism in the EU, www.respectcoalition.org/ where Islamic terrorism only scores 1 of 498 recorded incidents.
The alternative of course is that the Home Office, Home Secretary and Police Farce are criminally incompetent and the CPS should be charging them as such. Of course, we should not expect to see any resignations or firings for this as the Bliar government has effectively killed that lovely British tradition of the incompetent and criminal resigning from office due to such a short supply of Blairites to populate the ranks.

All in the same day he wheeled out an unprecedented level of terrorist threat in the UK!... Odd that.
